The Concrete Connection

SOCEA is a niche player and leading designer, manufacturer and supplier of jacking pipes in reinforced concrete for technical tunnels, water transport and wastewater systems and of reinforced concrete pressure pipes with or without slab core for the transport of drinking water and cooling water systems for nuclear and other power plants, etc.

All-in-One

The offices and production are located just outside Antwerp in Ranst-Oelegem and are fully equipped with the most modern techniques to be able to deliver standard but also custom-made products. History

Innovation since 1933

The history of SOCEA dates back to 1933 with the construction of the pipe factory in Oelegem (Belgium). To this day, this location is the beating heart of the company, where innovation, research and development are the greatest strengths.

1933

The French group Pont-à-Mousson (now Saint-Gobain) founds the Société Anversoise de Fabrications Industrielles (SAFI). In Oelegem, 20 km east of the Belgian port city of Antwerp, a factory is built on the banks of the Albert Canal for the production of ATO pipes (âme-tôle ordinaire or sheet metal core tubes), the cream of the crop for leakproof and vapour proof high-pressure water pipes.

1944-45

The factory is destroyed during the Second World War, but is rebuilt.

1958

The factory is temporarily closed because the demand for sheet steel core tubes has decreased drastically. However, the installations are maintained in order to ensure a quick restart in the event of a renewed demand.

1964

The factory is restarted under the name SOCEA as a result of the tender for sheet steel core tubes with a diameter of 1050 mm for the Elst-Espinette water pipeline near Ghent. A year later, the production is also diversified, among other things with reinforced concrete jacking pipes. From then on, SOCEA profiles itself as a strong supplier of total solutions for pressure pipes. More and more money is being invested in research and development of new production techniques.

1972

SOCEA now also produces reinforced concrete pipes, jacking pipes and sheet steel core tubes with large diameters (more than 2500 mm). Later in the 1970s, SOCEA supplies the sheet steel core tubes for the cooling water circuits in the Doel and Tihange nuclear power plants. Production is further diversified with pipes for gravity flow and prefabricated tramway tracks and bus lanes.

1976

SOCEA is taken over by Denys but remains an independent company that supplies the leading contractors on the European market.

2000

After a management buyout, SOCEA becomes an independent company within the Denys Global group. It is one of the leaders in Europe in the field of large diameter pipes. R&D remains a top priority and allows for the development of innovative ideas and project-specific solutions, also on location.
